Confirmation
Welcome to this exciting phase of your spiritual life. The sacrament of Confirmation was instituted by Christ when he conferred Holy Spirit on his apostles on Easter Sunday and Pentecost. For those preparing today, it means receiving Holy Spirit and the gifts and fruits of Holy Spirit. The celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation is held each year in the spring.
We currently have a two-year process of preparation for this sacrament. Youth who are baptized and are at least 14 years old are invited to join this journey of faith growth. There are some very definite requirements for an individual to be accepted for Confirmation. These requirements are met through:
- Attending Sunday liturgy on a weekly basis, including three Rites as a parish in the context of Mass (Acceptance, Affirmation, & Enrollment)
- Volunteering 20 hours of service (10 in the church community, 10 in the wider community)
- Participating in monthly small group faith sharing sessions
- Two weekend retreat experiences
Even though teens are seeking independence, parents are still an important part of this process, so we have several large group gatherings with the parents and sponsors involved. The process ends in the second year with an interview and the opportunity for the candidate to choose to be fully initiated. Our celebration of confirmation generally occurs in the Easter season. We make every effort to help the newly confirmed youth to be active and necessary members of this parish church.
Please contact the parish Confirmation coordinator, Judy Ramsey, at 319-377-8402 with any questions.
Baptized post high school age adults seeking Confirmation should contact Rodney at the parish office at 319-377-4869.
