Funeral Planning - The Death of a Catholic Christian

A funeral should be the community’s celebration of the deceased’s life and a sharing in the resurrection of Jesus. Congregational participation in the liturgy, especially with singing, is an important part of our faith community’s farewell. A funeral choir is available to assist in the congregational singing. The Parish Funeral Committee does offer help with a dinner or luncheon.

At the time of death the parish supports the family by providing the funeral dinner. For information contact  Sheila Seigel, 319-377-2474, or Mary Ann McComas, 319-377-6179.

There are many possibilities and options available for funerals, wakes and visitations. Your local funeral director and one of the priests will be glad to assist you in all the necessary preparations.

Mt. Calvary Cemetery, the local Catholic cemetery, is managed by a cemetery board made up of people from local parishes. Board members are appointed and assist in the financial and physical operations of the cemetery.

Be with us, Lord, as we stay awake.
Watch over us as we sleep.
That, awake, we may keep
watch with Christ,
And, asleep, rest in His peace.
May all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.

Please consider St. Joseph Parish in your estate planning.
